Masseria Andriani

A few steps from the Castellana Caves (Ba), a popular tourist destination, a treasure trove of history, we are talking about Masseria Andriani, in the Grave district, Ferrone municipal road at number 10.
The local Pro Loco "Don Nicola Pellegrino", since March 2023 has chosen to reopen the gates of a symbolic place that had been closed for too long; history, culture characteristic of the area, an ancient farmhouse dating back to the early 1700s, typical of the Valle d'Itria, which characterizes the Apulian landscape in a valuable way. Property of the Mastrangelo family who, with kind concession, allows the city Pro Loco to enhance the different environments, telling both the story of the architectural structure and all the functional characteristics of the farm.

The farmhouse re-proposes the scheme with an agricultural courtyard of the Mediterranean tradition, overlooked by the entrances to the various rooms. A single masseria made up of different parts of buildings used over time for different functions, stable, kitchen, shed, cellar, millstone, main accommodation, on the first floor, and for the farmers on the ground floor. It has been a home, a farm and a livestock farm, with products that are always ready and sold to many in the nearby neighbourhoods. Environments of continuous work for the production of typical products, from the milk of the stables to the harvest of the sown, passing through the products of the oven with wells and cisterns for the collection of water and conservation of the products: a perfect organization for a difficult life, but well structured.

According to studies by historian Dr. Marco Lanera inside, incorporated in the structure, there was a chapel dedicated to San Francesco dei Cappuccini on the ground floor, no longer present today but which we intend to rearrange and reproduce as per the description that has come down to the present day.

A place also mentioned by local history scholar Donato Mastromarino, who talks about it in the first volume of "Castellana outside and inside the walls" Congedo editore editions.
