Before the spread of printing, abbesses lived many hours of the day in the scriptorium. The task was for centuries the collection and reproduction of manuscripts. In order to be able to halve production times, a text could be given to be transcribed by dividing it between two scribes, each copying the half entrusted to them and then reuniting the two copies. Those who carried out this work were allowed to skip some canonical hours of prayer. After completing the writing process, the book was bound and the pages were created into a cover with a wooden tablet, sometimes also covered in embossed gold or silver foil, in parchment with silver corners, or simply in paper material. An ancient art that represented one of the many jobs foreseen within the ecclesiastical walls for cloistered women.
