Two peculiar characteristics of the story that affected Castellana and the monastery of San Benedetto di Conversano, which held secular and religious control and where the Abbesses (1266-1810) resided, who exercised control. On the one hand, the grate visible in the monastery which does not even allow the passage of a hand, a tangible symbol of seclusion. The bishop's symbols are represented by the golden miter and the silver crosier. The power of the Abbess was defined as “Monstrum Apuliae” to testify to the exceptional nature of the situation”.
